The full-service difference

The Christmas light company that does it all, so you never touch a ladder

Most Christmas light "installers" show up with whatever strands they bought in bulk, staple them to your fascia, and disappear until it's time to collect the takedown fee. We built Midwest Holiday Lighting to be the opposite of that.

Every home we light starts with a design. We walk the property, measure each roofline, peak, column and tree, and plan a layout that follows the architecture of your house instead of fighting it. Then we build custom-cut light lines to those exact measurements so bulbs are evenly spaced from corner to corner, with no dark gaps, no bunching at the ends and no extension cords draped across your porch.

Our bulbs are commercial-grade LED C9s, the big, bright, faceted bulbs you see on the best-lit homes in Champaign's Cherry Hills and Ironwood, Mahomet's Lake of the Woods, and Bloomington's Hawthorne and Fox Creek. They draw a fraction of the power of incandescents, stay cool to the touch, and are rated for years of Illinois winters.

Some people call it holiday light installation, some call it a Christmas light hanging service. Either way, you get your Christmas lights installed by an insured crew, maintained all season, and when the season ends, we take it all down, inspect every strand, and store it in our facility. Next October you get a text asking if you want the same design or something new. That's the whole job on your end.

How it works

Our full-service process. You never touch a thing.

Five steps, one phone call. We handle every part of your holiday lighting from the first sketch to off-season storage.

  1. Design

We visit your home, measure every roofline and tree, and design a layout that fits its architecture. You approve the look before anything goes up.

  2. Install

Our insured crew installs commercial-grade LED lights with custom-cut lines and clips made for your roof. No staples, no damage, no ladders for you.

  3. Maintain

A bulb goes out or a storm knocks a line loose? We come fix it, free, all season long. Your display looks perfect every night.

  4. Takedown

In January we remove everything carefully, inspect each strand, and leave your home exactly as we found it.

  5. Store

We label and store your lights in our climate-controlled facility until next season. Nothing in your garage or attic.

Why pros use C9 LEDs

Built for Illinois winters, not for one season

The strands sold at big-box stores are built to a price. Thin wire, sealed sockets that can't be repaired, and plastic that turns brittle the first time the temperature drops into the teens. Our commercial C9 lines use heavy-gauge SPT-2 wire, replaceable faceted LED bulbs and weather-sealed sockets, and they're cut to the exact length of each run on your home.

The result is bulbs that are evenly spaced, brighter and more consistent in color, and a system we can maintain in minutes instead of replacing. Read more about the difference in our guide to C9 LED vs incandescent Christmas lights. Want lights that never come down? See permanent Christmas lights.

What Central Illinois homeowners say

4.9 stars on Google

  • Our lights were amazing. Lights were done quickly and efficiently. When the season was over he was back to take them down just when he said he would. We have had him put our lights up for several years and will continue to! Highly recommended.

  • We just had our lights installed by Midwest Holiday Lighting on Thanksgiving day. We just called them and let them know we would like them to do our light install and they worked us in quickly. They were very friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and patient. We love the holiday lighting they installed on our house and will use them for years to come. They provided all the materials, completed the install quickly, and will store the lights for us during the off season. I added the wreath last minute and they had all the supplies to install it. We could not be happier with Tom and his crew and the job they did installing our lights. Thank You Midwest Holiday Lighting for making our holidays feel more merry and our home look brighter! Enjoy!

  • Tom is honest and hardworking, you won't find better out there!

FAQ

Christmas light installation questions

See all questions
How much does professional Christmas light installation cost?
Every quote is custom because every roofline is different. The biggest factors are the linear feet of roofline and ridge we outline, the number of peaks and stories, and extras like wrapped trees, wreaths, garland and landscape lighting. Our quotes are all-inclusive: lights, install, maintenance, takedown and storage. See our cost guide for what drives the price, then request a free quote for your exact number.
Do I need to buy the lights?
No. We supply commercial-grade LED C9 bulbs on custom-cut lines sized to your home. The lights, clips and cords are part of your service and we store them for you between seasons. You never shop for, untangle or test a strand again.
When do you install and take down?
We install late October through mid-December and take everything down in January. Early installs are turned on by timer after Thanksgiving if you prefer, so booking in October does not mean lights in October.
Will the lights damage my roof, gutters or siding?
No. We use clips designed for shingles, gutters and ridgelines that hold the lights without a single nail, screw or staple. Everything comes off clean in January.
What if a bulb goes out or a storm knocks a line loose?
Call or text us and we come fix it at no charge. Season-long maintenance is included on every residential install. Your display should look perfect every night, not just install night.
Can you match my neighbors or my HOA guidelines?
Yes. Warm white is the most requested look in Central Illinois subdivisions and nearly every HOA allows it. We also do classic multicolor, red and white, blue and white, red and green, and custom combinations. Read our HOA guide if you have covenants to work within.
Do you offer the same service for businesses?
Yes. See commercial Christmas lighting for storefronts, offices, restaurants, churches, car dealerships and HOA entrances.
