Tree lighting

Rooflines draw the eye. Trees fill the yard.

A lit roofline looks good. A lit roofline with a wrapped oak in the front yard, netted shrubs along the foundation and a glowing evergreen by the drive looks like a destination. Tree and landscape lighting adds the depth and warmth that make people slow down, and in Central Illinois, with our mature maples, oaks and spruces, there is usually a tree worth lighting.

We wrap trunks and major limbs in commercial-grade mini lights spaced for an even glow, net shrubs and hedges in color, uplight canopies and stone, and wrap evergreens top to bottom. Everything is sized to the tree, powered through timers and maintained all season like the rest of your display.

Which trees light best

Deciduous trees with strong trunks and limbs, like maples, oaks, honey locusts and crabapples, take a trunk-and-limb wrap that looks like the tree is made of light. Evergreens, spruce, fir and arborvitae, get a full wrap from top to bottom that reads as a classic Christmas tree in the yard. Shrubs and hedges, boxwood, yew and burning bush, get net lights that give the foundation beds a glowing base.

On wooded lots in Mahomet, Monticello, Danville and around the lakes, we often light several trees along the drive so the whole approach glows.

Done safely, for you and the tree

We wrap with lights sized to the trunk, never cinched tight, and remove them in January so bark is never girdled. Power runs through timers from exterior outlets with heavy-gauge cords rated for wet conditions. Tall trees are wrapped from ladders and lifts by our crew, never by you.

What Central Illinois homeowners say

4.9 stars on Google

  • Our lights were amazing. Lights were done quickly and efficiently. When the season was over he was back to take them down just when he said he would. We have had him put our lights up for several years and will continue to! Highly recommended.

  • We just had our lights installed by Midwest Holiday Lighting on Thanksgiving day. We just called them and let them know we would like them to do our light install and they worked us in quickly. They were very friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and patient. We love the holiday lighting they installed on our house and will use them for years to come. They provided all the materials, completed the install quickly, and will store the lights for us during the off season. I added the wreath last minute and they had all the supplies to install it. We could not be happier with Tom and his crew and the job they did installing our lights. Thank You Midwest Holiday Lighting for making our holidays feel more merry and our home look brighter! Enjoy!

FAQ

Tree lighting questions

See all questions
How high up the tree do you wrap?
As high as the design calls for. A typical front-yard maple gets the trunk and the first major limbs; larger trees can be wrapped higher with a lift.
Can you wrap a tree without a roofline install?
Yes, though most customers combine the two. Trees alone work well on homes where the roofline is hard to reach or an HOA limits roof lighting.
Will the lights hurt my tree?
No. Lights are wrapped loosely and removed each January, so there is no girdling or damage to bark.
Do you light shrubs and flower beds?
Yes. Net lights on shrubs and hedges and stake lights along beds and walks are common add-ons.
