Why design matters
The difference between lights on a house and a lit house
Drive any Central Illinois subdivision in December and you can spot the professional installs from the street. The bulbs are evenly spaced from corner to corner. Lines follow every peak and return. Nothing is bunched at the ends, nothing sags, and the colors were chosen for that house. That is design, and it happens before we touch a ladder.
Our designer visits your home, walks the property with you, and measures every roofline, ridge, column, window and tree you want included. We talk through the look you have in mind: classic warm white, a color scheme, which trees to wrap, whether the porch gets garland. Then we draft a plan with exact line lengths, bulb spacing, clip types for your roof and gutter style, and power routing that keeps cords out of sight.
You approve the design and the all-inclusive quote. Only then do we build your custom-cut light lines and schedule the install.
Designing for Central Illinois homes
The homes we light range from multi-gable two-stories in Champaign's Cherry Hills and Bloomington's Hawthorne to brick ranches in Rantoul and Victorians in Monticello and Paxton. Each needs a different approach. A six-gable two-story looks best with every peak outlined and the lower roofline carried around the garage. A low ranch wants a single, clean line across the front and lit landscape beds for depth. A Victorian needs tighter bulb spacing so the trim reads from the sidewalk and garland on the porch rail to finish it.
We also design for weather. Prairie wind across open subdivisions calls for closer clip spacing and anchored corners. Wooded lots in Mahomet, Danville and Clinton need lines routed clear of limbs that shed ice.
Colors and styles we design with
- Warm white C9: the classic, elegant look and the most requested in Central Illinois. Works with every exterior color and every HOA.
- Cool white: crisp and modern, popular on white, gray and dark-sided homes.
- Red and white, blue and white, red and green: traditional color pairs, often alternating bulbs.
- Multicolor: the nostalgic look, great on ranches and farmhouses.
- Custom: Illini orange and blue, a favorite team, or a scheme that matches your door and shutters.
Add wrapped trees, netted shrubs, wreaths, garland, stake lights along the walk and uplighting on stone or columns, all planned to work together.
Same design next year, or something new
We keep your design on file with your stored lights. In the fall you get a text: same look, or want to change it? Many customers add an element each year, a wrapped tree, garland on the railing, the back deck for the holiday party. The design grows with the home.

In January we remove everything carefully, inspect each strand, and leave your home exactly as we found it.

We label and store your lights in our climate-controlled facility until next season. Nothing in your garage or attic.
