Lead the eye from the street to the door
The best displays work at three levels: the roofline above, greenery at the door and lighting on the ground that ties it together. Pathway and landscape lighting is that third level. A line of C9 stake lights along the front walk, the driveway edge outlined, landscape beds traced in light and a soft uplight on the stone or the entry columns give the display depth and make the whole front yard part of the picture.
We install stake lights on sturdy ground stakes with the same commercial C9 bulbs as your roofline, so colors and brightness match. Uplights are low-voltage LED fixtures aimed at trees, stone and architecture. Everything runs on timers, is maintained all season, and is removed and stored in January.
Common layouts
- Walkway line: stakes on one or both sides of the front walk from the drive to the door, spaced to match the roofline bulbs.
- Driveway edge: stakes along the drive so the approach glows, popular on acreages and corner lots.
- Bed outline: a line of stakes along the front edge of foundation beds, under netted shrubs, for a continuous base of light.
- Uplights: warm white fixtures at the base of a tree, column or stone facade to add dimension.

Stake lights sit where the snow falls and the shovel goes. We use heavy stakes set deep, route cords away from walks and plow paths, and place lines so plowing a driveway does not take out the display. If a stake gets knocked over, maintenance is free.
