The question we get after every permanent lighting install is “what else can it do?” The answer is anything, but here are the scenes our Central Illinois customers actually use, roughly in order of popularity.
1. Everyday warm white
The one that gets used most. Warm white at 30 to 50 percent from dusk to bedtime, dimmed overnight. It makes the house look finished, highlights the architecture and lights the perimeter. Details in accent and security lighting.
2. Illini game day
Orange and blue alternating, with a chase for the walk-in. Scheduled for every home Saturday. In Champaign-Urbana this is the second most used scene on the system. See game day lighting.
3. Christmas
Red and green alternating, candy-cane chase, or pure warm white for the classic look. Scheduled from the day after Thanksgiving to January 2. See holiday lighting.
4. Halloween
Orange and purple with a slow flicker. Green on the porch. The house every trick-or-treater remembers. See Halloween lighting.
5. Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day
Red, white and blue alternating or in a flag chase. From a veteran-owned company, these matter to us. See patriotic lighting.

Tips for scenes that look good
- Alternating two colors along the roofline reads better from the street than a gradient on most homes.
- Keep the entry separate. A solid color on the porch section while the gables alternate adds depth.
- Use chases sparingly. A slow chase for a game or a party; steady colors for everyday.
- Dim for subtlety. Warm white at 30 percent looks elegant. Holiday colors at 100 percent look festive. Both have a place.
- Schedule everything. Once scenes are scheduled by date, the house takes care of itself.
